Englewood, New Jersey (October, 13, 2015) The Friends of the John T. Wright Arena will present the City of Englewood a check for $7,500 at tonight’s City Council meeting. Funds will subsidize ice-skating and hockey programs at the arena and provide financial scholarships for children during the upcoming 2015-2016 season. This gesture is in addition to the over $10,000. previously provided by the “Friends of the John T Wright Arena” used to subsidize participation fees for Englewood City residents in various community programs.
Upcoming and sponsored programs include a Bergen Family Center after-school learn to skate program for 80 children, an after- school program for Janis Dismus middle school students and various day trips and social events for Englewood school students at the rink.
These programs come off a very busy off-season, which included developing sponsors of “Friends of John T Wright Arena “ activities. The Community Chest of Englewood and Puffin Foundation have given grants enabling the afterschool programs. Also, the Shop Rite of Englewood scoreboard will not only serve as a timekeeper, but will fund additional programs.
“Enriching the lives of our city’s youth though ice-skating and hockey is primary to our goals. Studies show participants of team sports are more likely to develop skills such as teamwork, confidence and motivation sure to serve as positive traits in their further development” said, Lisa Wisotsky, President, Friends of the John T. Wright Arena and one of the founders of the non-profit.

Wright Arena was founded by residents of Englewood’s four wards to provide fundraising assistance and support for community programs, as well as, to ensure the Arena fulfills its original promise as a source of pride and unity. Wright Arena is to preserve the facility and serve as a resource and advocacy group on behalf of the public to ensure that the Arena has the resources, guidance, programming and ability to fulfill its vision as a place of recreation for the entire Englewood community.
